A FANTASTIC NEW YEARS EVE 2007-2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! My New Years Eve, was spent at Club Shaft as they held their official countdownparty. I was lucky enough to dj on the night and what a night it was!! Good to see so many of the Echophonyk crew there. Dj Mokugohan and Dj Stephane representing Echo did a sterling job and played awesome sets. My set was at the peak of the night 1am-2am so nautrally with all the beer I had consumed I was buzzing before I even stepped up behind the wheels of steel. When I did I played my usual style of funky/uplifting house, the crowd responded superbly.
In the middle of my set my trusted friend Mike Jones grabbed the mic and did what he does best and use his vocal singing power to great use to sing Auld Lang Syne for the masses.

A really fantastic night it was and big up all the djs, shaft staff and the awesome customers who made it a night to remember. Mr Sound Dug was there to record the whole event, so you can check out my set which will be podcasted next week.

The last day of 2007 and it is snowing here in Sendai. Tonight is the Club Shaft Countdown party which I will be djing at. Im really looking forward to it as I be djing my 1st set 0f 2008 at 1am!!

I like to give a mention to the man behind the scenes who really has helped me a lot. His name is Sound Dug and he is the man reposible for recording Echophonyk live. Along with the music Sound Dug incorparates the crowd as well to give it that perfect live sound. His sound recordings are fantastic something that I and the rest of the Echophonyk djs are really grateful for. As well as Recording live Dug also has personally helped me make my Dj Mixture voice indros and recently a sound commercial for our Echophonyk party next month. On thursday hanging out at Dugs studio we would put our talents into making music. Yep thats right our name is SPLIT EGO and we will produce many different styles of Dance music, which you will be able to listen to on my podcast when they are completed. Currently we are working on our first track named SPLIT EGO which will be finished by the early new year. Exciting times ahead and Sound Dug massive big up to you!!!!

After the madness of last weekend and Christmas it is nice to have slowed down a bit. Things turn to New Years Eve as djs and clubs get ready for the biggest parties in the calendar.

Originally starting out as a jazz funk dj in late eighties London , Mike McKenna has gone on to become one of the top djs in Japan , famed for his sound system shattering sets.
Starting off in North London playing alongside the likes of Giles Peterson and Russ Dewsbury, a chance move to Tokyo 13 years ago coincided with his discovery of house - since then he hasnt looked back. He is now resident at world-reknowned Tokyo clubs like Womb and Air, and is a regular guest at Ageha, Yellow, Warehouse and Velfarre. He has also graced the decks in other Japanese cities such as Niigata , Nagano , Hiroshima , Himeji , Sendai , Sapporo , Kobe and Osaka . Guest dj radio apearances include Ministry of Sound, 4 elements ( slovakia ), Salus Fm ( tokyo ), Shibuya Fm and InterFm. On internet radio stations he has a new mix broadcast every month and unknown to most people was one of the founders of Samurai Fm.

He has dj'ed with some of the biggest names on the global scene, including Fat Boy Slim, John Digweed, Phil Thompson, Tim Deluxe, Pqm ,Satoshi Tomiie, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, Paco and Frederick, Towa Tei, Mike Monday, Desyn Marcello, Plump Djs, Elite Force, Hyper, Chris Carter, PFN, Adam Freeland, James Lavelle, Shinichi Osawa, Dave Seaman, Sucker Djs, Caged Baby, Mutiny, Andrew Friendly, Guy Ornadel, Koma and Bones, Meat Katie, Will Saul, Hernan Canteneo, Soul of Man, Santos, Phil K, Plastic Fantastic Machine, Moussa Clarke, Nick Warren and Tiefschwartz to name a few. Nicolai ( 'bushes' ) Rod Stewart, Chara, Andrea Doria, Mashtronic, Karl Sav, Blendbrank, Disciples of Sound, Ingo Vogelman, Damon G, Andrew K, Signal Drivers, War, Space Cowboy, Black Eyed Peas and Eddie Lalliq on labels like Great Stuff Recordings, Erase, Benchmarc, 852, L2 and Buena Onda, supported and played extensively by such djs as Anthony Pappa, Fergie, Desyn Marcello, The Crystal Method, Ricky Stone and Tom Real.

With on average 2 remixes a month, 2 radio mixes and a constant influx of upfront promo tracks, he constantly strives to move forward and refuses to be pidgeon-holed by genres, alllowing him to really play to the crowd.

MADNESS BUT ALL FUN!!!

Hello again! Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas. Mine was a pure joy, a lot of beer, chicken and djing. I will take you back to last weekend which was the madness weekend before christmas.

Friday December saw Echophonyk host its Christmas party. It was certainly a superb night. The club was packed full of happy party people and the vibe electric. I played 2 sets the first was a very soulful house set from 8pm-9pm. Then things just got crazy after that as the beers starting flowing along with the Gin and Tonics. My 2nd dj was at 1am so you can imagine I was a little drunk as I took to the decks. I played a funky party set which certainly got the people moving and grooving. It was great fun spinning at 1am as I kept grabbing the mic and shouting Merry Christmas gosh I must have been drunk. I along with the rest of the echophonyk crew had a fantastic time as the party came to a close around 4am. Roll on 2008 as Echophonyk does it all again.

4am after packing up my records it was time for the after party at Ernies bar. Always a tradition after an Echophonyk event. As expected Ernies bar was packed with late night drinkers. From that point I dont remember a lot, but luckily did remember how to get home around 7am!!!


Saturday December 22nd was a wipeout day and I had managed to recover in time to hook up with Mike and Nori to head to Ernies Bar for his Christmas party. Again it was busy and Nori took up the djing duties as I mingled with the punters. A couple of beers later I was wacked out still suffering from Fridays marathon madness. For some reason I ended up in Club Shaft which was packed solid with people for the Dj Kawasaki, Free Tempo mega party. Mega it was as the whole club was jumping as Free Tempo rocked the joint. I did manage to bump into Dj Kawasaki who was bar hoovering. He is a very talented dj someone I have a lot of respect for. A nice chat and a merry christmas handshake and I was on the way home. I wish I had stayed to see Kawasaki spin but hey next time, I had to catch up on some sleep!!!

Sunday December 23rd was another dj gig for me. It was at Club Shaft for my friend Mike who had very kindly involved in his friends charity xmas event. The event called Pirate Xmas Party was to help collect presents for underprevillaged children. Certainly a fantastic event which included some amzing rock bands, singers and a danceshow. I djied between each live act, I played a mix set of Soul, Funk and House. A cracking gig and one I would certainly like to get involved with again. The organizers after the gig took all the performers including myself out for a second party. More beer and more and more ended up with me a little tipsy again. But it had been a truely amazing weekend of fun.
